Certificate in brain injury studies

We are not currently accepting applications for this course.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded 40 credits at university level four.

The first module will have four workshops days and the second will have three, covering the theoretical aspects, which students must attend. This will be consolidated with self directed distance learning through online resources.

The first module is 'Understanding Brain Injury' and is aimed at professionals, carers and anyone interested in the issues related to sustaining an acquired or traumatic brain injury within adults. The module will cover how injury is often sustained and their causes, the anatomy and physiology of the brain, the physical, cognitive, behavioural and social consequences for brain injured individuals, families and carers, communication and rehabilitation. It will also identify relevant legal and statutory factors which may impact following a brain injury.

The second module is 'Promoting Recovery after Brain Injury' and covers the rehabilitation approaches used to facilitate recovery of the physical, cognitive, behavioural, psychological and social consequences following a brain injury. The module will break down rehabilitation and look at the process, barriers and impact on personal relationships.

Each module has a 5,000 word assessment which are divided into a case study and an essay.

We run the course from Headway - the brain injury association head office in Nottingham and the course costs £1200+VAT per person.

Numbers are limited to 25 per cohort and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis from the initial declaration of interest.
