Jane Hales is a widow with 3 adult sons. Simon, her eldest, suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2009 while a university student; Jane is his main carer. Simon and Jane were the subject of Channel 4's documentary 'My New Brain' which followed them on their journey through rehabilitation.
A keen runner, cyclist and swimmer she is social secretary of Rutland Running and Triathlon Club and an active participant in races and challenges of varying distance. Jane and her family have raised huge sums for Headway, including running the London Marathon (2013), serving on the organising committee of the Butterfly Ball (2013), walking the Great Wall of China (2011) and a host of other events.
Jane worked in the hotel and catering trade for over 30 years, running her own hotel on the edge of Rutland Water, managing a team of agency relief staff and latterly as an Events Organiser contracted by local hotels and outside caterers. She recently took on the role of PA and Racing Secretary to Mick Appleby, a racehorse trainer based in Rutland.
Jane and Simon live in Rutland with 2 Lurchers and a very naughty Jack Russell terrier.
