It's good physiotherapy, and coming up with patterns makes my brain work.

Brain injury survivor Caroline tells us how 'beading', pictured above, helped her to regain function in her hands following a brain injury, and the value of the support she receives from Headway Hertfordshire:

"I had a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage while sitting in the bath 4 and half years ago, it affected my left side.

"I started beading 3 year ago, at the time I couldn't use all the fingers on my left hand, now I can. They don't feel normal but it's good physiotherapy and coming up with patterns makes my brain work.

"I still have problems with my balance and walking is a bit of a problem so I use a stick. I've had an operation to repair some stroke damage done to my left eye lid, it was getting very droopy.

"I enjoy the Headway coffee morning and the monthly meal, I don't go to anything else because I can't commit to attending all the sessions as we like to go the our caravan during the summer."

Caroline created these amazing works under the name 'Caroline Lloyd Designs'.
