Andy Nicholson

Andy Nicholson, from Lincoln, sustained a brain injury when he fell down an unguarded stairwell while working as a builder in Leipzig, Germany. 

Now a regular and popular video blogger through his Notes From The Brain Damaged Baron Facebook page, Andy has created this excellent video for our 'A New Me' campaign.

We asked Andy some questions about his new sense of self after brain injury. 

Q: What does 'A New Me' mean to you? 

A: A new me means letting go of the old, former self before the sands of time drain the memory of it without consent. Acceptance who I now am is all-important, the only way to move forward and see that there is a life beyond the injury.

Q: How has your outlook on life changed after brain injury?

A: My outlook on life has changed beyond belief. Prior to my injury the future consisted of looking no further than two minutes ahead of me, seeing life in the moment.

Post brain injury I see a long future loving and being loved, achieving as many goals as I can seeing life as a play, no longer a rehearsal. That tends to happen when any future almost ceased to be.

I now see a life ahead of me, appreciating what I have every single day.
