The government has issued new guidance with the key message: stay at home. During this period of national lockdown, government advice is that you must stay at home except to:
- Shop for basic necessities, for you or a vulnerable person
- Go to work if you cannot reasonably do so from home
- Exercise in your local area with people from your household or one other person, which should be limited to once per day
- Meet your support bubble or childcare bubble if you are legally permitted to form one
- Seek medical assistance or avoid risk of harm including domestic abuse
- Attend education or childcare settings, for those who are eligible
Only vulnerable children or children of key workers will be allowed to attend educational settings until February half term. Early Years provision such as nurseries will remain open.

The government have advised that those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should take extra care to stay at home and shield. They can also expect to receive a letter in the post from their GP or the government with more information.

How we can help
We are here to support you through this difficult time and you can still contact our helpline for support and advice. Whilst our team won’t be able to offer you information or advice in relation to Coronavirus, they can offer reassurance and friendly voice.
You can contact the helpline by calling 0808 800 2244 or emailing helpline@headway.org.uk.
The charity’s online forum, HealthUnlocked, is a community for anyone affected by brain injury. It provides you with a chance to connect and share with people who understand brain injury and its effects in a friendly, safe and mutually supportive environment.
Headway groups and branches are determined to do all they can support those who rely on their help.
If you are currently being supported by a local Headway group or branch, you should be able to contact them via the usual telephone or email addresses, although please be aware that not all phone lines will be manned due to the current situation.
Charity shops
Sadly, all of our charity shops are required to close again following the government announcement. We will only re-open a Headway shop when we are confident that we can offer a safe environment for our volunteers, staff and customers and it is financially viable for us to do so.
