The firm was awarded a Trustees’ Special Award, an accolade created to mark the 40th Anniversary of Headway – the brain injury association, at the event on Friday, 6 December.
It received the special accolade for its support of the charity’s Justice Project. The project aims to raise awareness of brain injury within the criminal justice system, and ensure survivors are identified at the earliest possible opportunity to enable them to receive appropriate support.
It also includes the Headway Brain Injury Identity Card, which was launched by His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.
The firm provides a free 24-hour legal helpline, which is found on the back of the ID card, enabling the caller to receive legal advice at the point they need it most.
Thompsons was also thanked for its continued support for Headway’s annual conference The Way Ahead.
Andrew Green, Chairman of Headway, said he was delighted to award Thompsons Solicitors the prize and thanked it for its commitment in helping Headway provide vital services to brain injury survivors.
He said: “Thompsons has been a key partner in the Justice Project since 2016 and has helped us support hundreds of brain injury survivors who have come into contact with the criminal justice system.
“In addition, Thompsons has sponsored Headway’s annual residential event, The Way Ahead, since 2010. This includes providing bursaries for Headway groups and branches without the financial resources to attend the event.
“Thompsons has been an excellent partner in the Justice Project and we are pleased to acknowledge its significant contribution.”
Clare Mellor, Operations Director at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “We are proud to have campaigned alongside Headway for decades to reduce workplace risks, raise awareness of the issues facing those with a brain injury and ensure those for whom we act are linked up with those who can help them best.
“Our role in the Justice Project is to ensure that those who come into contact with the criminal justice system, often through no fault of their own, are treated fairly and with respect. From January to October this year alone, almost 200 people contacted the legal helpline and our specially trained team helped them when they needed it most.
“We are honoured to receive the Trustees’ Special Award in recognition of our promise to provide the best legal advice and representation for individuals affected by brain injury.”
