PIP and ESA: Are they working? Add your voice to Headway campaign

Fri 27 Oct 2017

Headway has launched a new survey into the way ESA and PIP assessments are conducted, asking ‘are they working well?’

To help us represent the voices of those living with brain injury, we are asking people to contribute by sharing their thoughts and experiences with the charity.

Complete the survey

“For the past few years, we have called repeatedly for improvements to be made to both PIP and ESA assessments.

“Given the volume of calls to our helpline, or pleas for support from Headway groups and branches across the UK, it is clear many people will have a very simple – and categorical – answer to the question of whether or not the assessments are working.

“It is vital that we take every opportunity to speak up for people who are being unfairly treated as a result of the complexities and often hidden and fluctuating nature of acquired brain injury.”

How you can help

We are asking people living with the long-term effects of brain injury to share their views on the process of applying for ESA and/or PIP by completing our survey. We are seeking the views of people who are currently receiving the benefits or who have applied recently in order to compare the results with our previous survey into this issue.

If you receive or have applied for one or both of these benefits in the past two years, we would like to hear from you. This includes those who have applied and are currently waiting for a decision, and those who are in the process of appealing a decision.

The survey can be completed by claimants, or family members/carers on the claimant’s behalf. All answers are strictly confidential, unless you give consent to us using your experiences in our campaign.

By sharing your views and experiences, you will be helping Headway to campaign for improvements to be made to the way in which people with brain injury are treated in welfare benefits assessments.

You can download a printable version of the survey below, or email Tamsin on publications@headway.org.uk.
